The home was purchased to create opportunities for us, family, and friends to live in the now and enjoy time in Hawai`i. Our home enables a limited number of guests per year to experience the tranquility of our home and enjoy time in Hawai`i, with an idyllic home-base to relax and enjoy.

Aloha — we're Rusty and Hazel. Hale Akaʻula is our family's home in Waikoloa Village, set about 800 feet up the slopes above Hawaiʻi's Kohala Coast, where the evenings run cooler and the sunset show over the Pacific rarely disappoints.
We live in California and spend part of every year at the house — which is why we share it the way we do: whole-home stays of a month or more, one set of guests at a time. Between our own visits, we'd rather the house be lived in and loved than sit empty.
We look after guests personally — no management company, no call center. Write to info@haleakaula.net and you'll hear back from one of us, usually within a day. We'll help you plan, share our favorite beaches and restaurants, and then leave you in peace to enjoy the place.
Hale Akaʻula sits in Waikoloa Village, a golf-course community on the sunny leeward side of Hawaiʻi's Big Island — high enough above the coast for cooler evenings and wide-open sunset views, close enough that the beach is an easy drive.
Kona International Airport is about half an hour away. The white sand and snorkeling at ʻAnaehoʻomalu Bay and the Waikoloa Beach Resort area — with the Kings' Shops, restaurants, and oceanfront golf — are 15 minutes down the hill. Hapuna Beach and Mauna Kea Beach, regularly ranked among the best in the country, are 25–30 minutes north. The Village itself has a market, restaurants, and its own golf course for everything day-to-day.
And when the sun goes down, the elevation pays off again — clear, cool nights and some of the best stargazing on the island, straight from the lanai.
